Actor y comediante estadounidense. A la edad de trece años trabajó como ayudante de camarero cómico en los centros vacacionales de la región de Catskills, N.Y. Posteriormente actuó en vodevils y clubes nocturnos, donde desarrolló sus clásicas pantomimas, canciones disparatadas de humor ininterrumpido y sus bufonadas físicas. Arribó a Broadway y fue un éxito con The Straw Hat Revue (1939) y Lady in the Dark (1940), en la cual se robó la escena al interpretar a la legendaria Gertrude Lawrence. A su primera película Rumbo al Oriente (1944) le siguieron roles protagónicos en La vida secreta de Walter Mitty (1947), El inspector general (1949), El fabuloso Andersen (1952) y Navidades blancas (1954). También protagonizó en televisión El show de Danny Kaye (1963–67). Gran parte de su material de comedia fue escrito por su esposa, Sylvia Fine. Kaye obtuvo un premio de la Academia por su trayectoria en 1955. Su prolongado compromiso con la UNICEF comenzó en 1953 y recorrió miles de kilómetros (a menudo piloteando su propio avión) en obras de beneficencia para la organización. Obtuvo el premio humanitario Jean Hersholt en 1982 y fue nombrado miembro de la Legión de Honor francesa en 1986.
